Do you have Spider Pins?" the gentleman on the phone asked. That was the start of Talisman Jewelers' insane RUSH job of manufacturing 1,000 large pewter spider pins for Mattel Toys in TEN DAYS! The pins were used as the promotional give-away treat at the annual International Toy Fair held in New York. Mattel Toys was re-introducing a very popular, very cool toy from the 60's, The Thingmaker, which enables you to make your own "Creepy Crawler" plastic bugs.
By one of those fortunate coincidences, it happened that not only had Bunnie once owned and enjoyed the toy, but she had all the original molds at home. It lent a really authentic flavor to the promotional pins because we used the original spider mold from 1964 to make them! Image size=59.3k JPEG.
