Aquamarine
is a clear to cloudy, light blue to light green variety of the gem species
beryl. Sources of this gem include Brazil, Africa, Russia, and California.
Pictured here are two Aquamarine crystals, the tall one (from Kenya)
measures 2 3/4 by 5/8 inches and weighs 28.8 grams. The shorter one
(from Brazil) is 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/4 inches, and weighs 66 grams. Notice
the area of irising on the shorter crystal, (see "irising" in the glossary for
